Runequest

Runequest is a game that is rich in background that is set on the magical world of Glorantha. It is a world in the bronze age with various cultures and elder races being present in the world, though not all necessarily in the same place. It is a world where a common man can have access to magic that can heal simple wounds and Priests and Rune Lords can literally call down the power of the deities. It is a world where hero’s are called to duplicate the actions of their gods to bring about powerful magics that can quite literally change the world.

I will be using the “Runequest: Adventures in Glorantha”, version of the rules with standard character generation at a session 0. This will give us a group of hero’s that are human Initiates of a deity and about the age of 21. Although other races exist in the setting, they are nothing like their contemporary counterparts and therefore I am steering people away from them.

Slavewall – Earth Season 1626

Loutette walked a across the deserted trading square, her sandals kicking faith swirls of dust that was quickly carried away in the faint breeze, bring with it the sounds of merchants packing up their stalls drifting. A group of small children playing in the large open area scattered from her path as she walked with purpose and determination.

She was a fierce looking woman, a heavy scar down the left side of her face, bisecting the empty socket where her eye should have been. Her left arm missing from just below elbow gave her a sort of lopsided sway as she moved, but never would anyone have thought of calling her cripple.

A group of Lunar guardsman jogged past, their bronze armour clanking with their movement. Loutette cast her eyes downwards, not in deference as the guards would probably interpret, but more to hide the sneer of contempt she held for them.

Once the Lunar Empire had held total sway in Tarsh and Sartar, but then Kallyr Starbrow had destroyed the new Temple of the Reaching Moon by calling the True Dragon beneath it, shattering the Lunar grip on Sartar. Then the Issaries merchant Tornson arrived in slave wall, with his exotic mistress and his brutish bodyguard, and he called a market in Slavewall, which when it was finished saw the Lunar occupation near bankrupt with all their indentured servants freed.

Although many saw this newfound freedom as a boon and fled Slavewall back to their homelands, many more did not, begrudging their lot at now having to fend for themselves and not be fed and sheltered by their Lunar masters. Most of these had stayed in the town, sleeping on the streets and stealing to make their way.

The Lunars had retreated back behind the walls of the Lunar district, laxing in the duties they should perform for the community, however the power of the Issaries magic kept the town in fair shape. But there were things that lay outside of this influence, things that the Lunar’s no longer cared to keep in check and something needed to be done.

Loutette stopped at the entrance to a tavern, “The Gagging Goat”. It was now popular with the transients and so-called adventures that saw opportunity in the town. Here she hoped to find some of these bravadoes to step up and assist…here she hoped to find Hero’s
